Know the warning signs

When a chimney needs a mason,
not a band-aid.

Chimneys take the worst of Toronto's weather. Catch these early and a repair stays a repair, instead of turning into a full rebuild.

Crumbling or spalling brick

Brick faces popping off or flaking means water is freezing inside. It only spreads.

Washed-out mortar joints

Gaps and recessed joints let water straight into the structure. Time to repoint.

Cracked crown or cap

The concrete crown and metal cap are the chimney's roof. Cracked or missing, water pours in.

Leaks or water stains

Stains on the ceiling or wall by the chimney usually trace back to flashing or a bad crown.

Leaning or bowing

A chimney pulling away from the house is a safety issue and usually needs a partial or full rebuild.

Wood-burning fireplace

Using a fireplace or stove? A WETT inspection keeps it safe, code-compliant and insurable.

The craft

We fix why it failed, not just the symptom.

Most chimney repairs come back because nobody addressed the water. We find the source first, then rebuild it right.

01

Freeze-thaw & water

Toronto sees 50-plus freeze cycles a winter. Water gets into open joints and cracked crowns, freezes, expands and blows brick apart. We seal every path in.

02

Flashing & cap failure

Most chimney leaks start where the chimney meets the roof, or at a cracked crown. New flashing and a proper cap end it.

03

The wrong mortar

Hard modern mortar on soft older brick spalls the brick. We match strength and colour so the rebuild lasts and disappears.

Chimney FAQ

Straight answers before you call.

How much does chimney repair cost in Toronto?+
It depends on the work. A repoint or a new cap is a modest job; a partial rebuild from the roofline is more; a full rebuild of a large stack is the biggest. We give a clear, itemised estimate for free after we look at it, so there are no surprises. Call (416) 729-8515 and we'll take a look.
Do I need a full rebuild or just repointing?+
Often just the top few courses and the crown have taken the damage, and a partial rebuild plus repointing is enough. If the stack is leaning or the brick is spalled top to bottom, a full rebuild is the honest call. We'll tell you which, and we won't sell you a rebuild you don't need.
What is WETT, and do I need it?+
WETT (Wood Energy Technology Transfer) certification means we're trained to inspect and work on wood-burning fireplaces, stoves and their chimneys to current safety codes. If you burn wood, most insurers want a WETT inspection, and it keeps your home safe. We're WETT-certified and can inspect, reline and repair.
How long does a chimney rebuild take?+
Most repointing and cap jobs are a day or two. A partial rebuild is typically a few days; a full rebuild of a large chimney can run a week depending on access and weather. Mortar needs dry, above-freezing conditions to cure, which is why we schedule the bigger work spring through fall.
Can you match my old brick and mortar?+
Yes, this is the whole point of hiring an experienced mason. We source brick to match your home's colour and size, and match the mortar's strength and joint so the repair blends in instead of standing out. On older west-end homes that means softer, lime-based mortar, not hard modern mix that damages the brick.
When is the best time to repair a chimney?+
Before winter. Every freeze-thaw cycle turns a small crack into a bigger one, so fixing it in the fall stops the damage from spreading all winter. That said, if you have an active leak or a safety issue, call us right away.
