When to book a WETT inspection

If any of this is you,
book it before you burn.

Buying or selling a home

A fireplace on the inspection list almost always needs a WETT report before closing.

Your insurer is asking

Most insurers want a current WETT inspection to cover a wood-burning appliance.

Installing a new stove

New stoves and inserts need the chimney and liner checked and sized correctly.

Years since a check

If it hasn't been inspected in years, don't light it until it has.

Smoke or draft problems

Poor draft or smoke in the room points to the liner, cap or flue.

Visible liner damage

Cracked tiles or a damaged firebox mean it's time to reline or repair.

The craft

What WETT covers.

A WETT-certified inspection checks the whole system, from the firebox to the cap, against current safety codes, and gives you a written report you can hand to an insurer or a buyer.

  • Certified Level 1 and 2 inspections with a written report.
  • Stainless liner installation and relining.
  • Firebox and damper repair.
  • New crowns, caps and flashing to seal out water.
  • Smoke and draft diagnosis.

The craft

Safe, and built to stay that way.

A WETT report is a snapshot. We fix what it finds so the system stays safe season after season.

01

Freeze-thaw & water

Toronto sees 50-plus freeze cycles a winter. Water gets in, freezes, expands and blows the face off brick. We trace where it's getting in.

02

Drainage & flashing

Most chimney and wall failures start at bad flashing, caps or grading. Fix the water path or the masonry just fails again.

03

The wrong mortar

Hard modern mortar on soft older brick destroys it. We match strength, colour and joint so the repair lasts and disappears.

Chimney & WETT FAQ

Straight answers before you call.

What is a WETT inspection?+
WETT stands for Wood Energy Technology Transfer. A WETT-certified technician inspects your wood-burning fireplace, stove and chimney against current safety codes and gives you a written report.
Do I need WETT for insurance?+
In most cases yes. If you have a wood-burning appliance, most insurers want a current WETT inspection to provide or keep coverage.
What does relining cost?+
It depends on the chimney height and liner type. We give a clear, itemised estimate for free after we look at it.
How long does a WETT inspection take?+
A standard inspection is usually an hour or two. If we find issues, we quote the repair separately.
Can you inspect and repair in one visit?+
Often yes for small work. Larger relining or rebuilds are scheduled after the inspection.
Is my old fireplace safe to use?+
Don't assume. If it hasn't been inspected in years, have it checked before you light it.
